Egypt is kinda old...maybe too old to keep going
there still needs to be a night of counting the years..it'll be a long one for sure

Shadi Abdel Salam made only one feature ( The Mummy: The Night of Counting the Years) in 1969. He mainly worked as a costume & set designer in both Egyptian & Non-Egyptian productions - most notably with Roberto Rossellini, who played a significant part in getting The Mummy financed.
The Mummy is still considered one of the greatest, and most significant, Egyptian and Arab films ever made.
Sometimes we say, “We’re seven thousand years old and don’t even know it.” This phrase has very large implications. For if, of these seven thousand years, I only know forty, then I’m like the person who is thirty years old but only remembers the last five. The state of profound personal confusion from which he would be suffering can be compared to the [Nation-] State that is afflicted by the sickness of this memory loss. I believe that we have generations suffering from cultural and historical amnesia. We need to rekindle this memory so that as individuals we are able to say, “Tomorrow I shall do this,” while standing on solid ground. Without this, a person will not believe in his ideas, nor will he have an existence.

I found two of my grandfather's letters (dad side) he wrote to grandma in April 1949. One of them is a lovely poem, 4 pages long.
They'd just gotten married & with him working in the military (a copilot I believe?) he had to stay in Ismailia for some time.
At first I thought it was for the Palestine War but I think the timeline doesn't add up.
I can ask dad but i wanna connect the dots myself dammit
He was actually a very good writer, I might try translating him at some point for fun

They moved to Heliopolis in 1953 from a nearby area, a year after the 1952 revolution., they'd just had my uncle.
They had agreed with the landlord of this house to rent it, but the landlord pulled out last minute because
"One of the Free Officers likes the building."
yikes.
So, they got an apartment in the one on the right instead...That's where they had my father - 3 years later - and that's also where my father had my brother and then had me
